As far as getting the original assets, Google "maplestory v62 setup" and you should be able to find the original game installer. There are open-source programs that reverse engineered Nexon's file encryption and extracts the assets (graphics, audio, etc). No more callback hell, for those developers who know what I'm talking about :) Would anyone be interested in contributing to an open-source git repo? All you have to do is fire up Chrome/Firefox and go to the website, instead of downloading an installer and praying that it works on the first try. With no download+setup, it will be more foolproof and more streamlined because there are no installation dependencies, saving hours of Googling when anything goes wrong with setup. The second is that no download is required. Effectively, this will make the game more accessible and less cumbersome (think of games like slither.io or agar.io).
The first is that no particular OS is required, just a modern browser that supports Websockets and Canvas, so it can be played on Linux, Mac OS, or Windows. I think an implementation like this has two things really going for it. Web browser technology has come a long way now and I think, given enough time, it's very possible to reproduce the original v62 game using JS only, i.e. I've always loved MS v62 but hate the fact that it works on Windows only.
